About us

NUOLI is a geographically and educationally diverse group of young people founded in spring 2023, supporting ministries in planning, implementing, and evaluating youth participation.

Who are we?

The Youth Nature and Climate Group NUOLI is a geographically, educationally, and expertise-wise diverse group of young people. The group, founded in 2023, operates under the Prime Minister’s Office.

NUOLI’s mission is to support ministries in planning, implementing, and evaluating youth participation.

What do we do?

NUOLI fulfills its mission by:

  • Organizing the Youth Environmental Summit – an biannual event where approximately 400 active young people gather to produce children’s and youth’s demands for more sustainable nature and climate policy

  • Conducting research on youth resources in the environmental action field

  • Giving speeches on climate and environmental issues

  • Providing statements on decisions under preparation

  • Meeting experts and decision-makers from across the country

  • Collaborating with other youth actors

Youth Environmental Summit

Biannually, NUOLI organizes the Youth Environment Summit, which continues the youth climate summits organized in previous years. The registration for Youth environmental Summit 2026 opens in March.

Approximately 400 young people aged 11–29 participate in the summit. During the event:

  • Participants take part in workshops on current environmental themes

  • A panel discussion is held on youth participation opportunities

  • A declaration is produced in the workshops, addressed to the Finnish Government to make youth voices heard by decision-makers

  • Participants can directly influence government program strategies under preparation in workshops organized by various ministries

  • Opportunity to get acquainted with organizations and companies involved in environmental work at the event’s stands

  • Free lunch and networking with other young people

Summit 2026 themes

Deeper themes discussed at the summit:

The Future of Work and the Economic System

The current economic system and a significant share of jobs rely on overconsumption and the unsustainable use of natural resources, accelerating the climate and nature crises. At the same time, we know that work and the economy can be organized in ways that respect the limits of the planet’s carrying capacity—but this requires structural change.

A Good Life as Part of Nature

A good life is not created solely through economic well-being or material consumption. A significant part of our well-being is built on our connection with nature. Biodiversity, a clean environment, and a safe living space form the foundation of both mental and physical well-being. At the same time, it is clear that the relationship between humans and nature is currently out of balance, and restoring it requires changes in both values and ways of acting.

Climate and Security

How is security connected to climate change? Security concerns us all—but who is most affected by the impacts of climate change? And how does security policy appear from a planetary perspective? Security can be discussed in many contexts, but it is often approached from the viewpoint of national security and defense. However, as global temperatures rise, the greatest security threat of our time and the future is climate change. The environmental crisis threatens security, and the issue is more relevant than ever before. How can security be ensured in a world where the climate is changing radically?

Forests and Agriculture

Forests and agriculture form the foundation of Finnish well-being, while also playing a key role in combating climate change and biodiversity loss. Current practices place heavy pressure on ecosystems and soils in many areas, weakening biodiversity and increasing emissions. At the same time, we know that forests and food production can be organized in ways that strengthen carbon sinks, protect nature, and ensure food security.
